ASLE Seeks Candidates to Run for Diversity Officer

ASLE elections are right around the corner, and we are still seeking candidates to run for Diversity Officer.  The position is a three-year term (Jan. 1, 2014 – Dec. 31, 2016) to serve on ASLE’s Executive Council as a voting member, followed by one year (2017) serving in a non-voting role as Past Diversity Officer, to help with continuity and mentoring of the next Diversity Officer.

Duties include connecting the Executive Council with ASLE’s Diversity Caucus and general membership through:

  1. Attendance at ASLE biennial conferences, EC annual meetings
  2. Maintaining an active online diversity presence through the ASLE Diversity Caucus blog, list serv, and other ASLE media outlets (e.g., Facebook, Twitter etc.)
  3. Continuing development of ASLE’s inclusivity and equity commitment through new and innovative possibilities such as working closely with ASLE’s grants program, conference planning, and other initiatives.

Diversity Caucus members are particularly encouraged to apply.

Please notify current Diversity Officer Salma Monani (smonani.at.gettysburg.edu) and current ASLE President Paul Outka (paul.outka.at.ku.edu) immediately of your interest in the position, and then submit a short candidate statement of approximately 250 words by October 25, 2013 to Paul Outka.  Elections will be conducted primarily online and the voting period will be the month of November.
